Some designs just pop up in my mind and I have to do them! Card Game Mitts is one of those – I dropped my plans and went right to work on this fun stranded knitting project. Stranded knitting is where you carry more than one color of yarn across the row, or round. I used to call all stranded knitting “Fair Isle”, though that term should be reserved for the characteristic patterns of the Shetland Islands.
These fingerless mitts are of course perfect for playing games, but also driving, knitting, playing music and more! Not into cards? Well I intentionally designed each of the four card motifs to be the same number of stitches and rounds so you can substitute them for each other. How about a version with all hearts? Multicolor diamonds? Green clubs as Irish shamrocks? Or any combination! I predict you’ll be able to use this pattern for all sorts of gift knitting!
